Have woken to more snow falling. I have so missed this sight in Armidale over the past few years. So I'm pulling out the big guns in the way of thermal gear in readiness for more walking.
Just returned from several hours stroll around down town Biskek, seeing the interesting buildings and statues from Kyrgy's past and more recent history. The snow has been freshened up and the parks a picture.
Walking is fairly hazardous for a granny being so icy under foot, plus the many "babushka traps", fond local terminology for intermittent holes in the ground, "babushka" being "grandmother" in Russian.
Lesson number 3 Beware Babushka Traps
We stood under a huge statue of Lenin for a group photo before heading to a Turkish development of supermarket and shopping plaza with a splendid Turkish restaurant for.......you guessed it Kate, Pide and baklava - the real McKoy. Then on to the best coffee in town, with cakes to die for.
But what else do you do but a cafe crawl on a snowy day in Biskek?
Oh, yes, we did do some preparation for our therapy workshops.
Tomorrow we head for Karakol, 500 km east along Lake Issyk-kul - see map attached for clarification. We are a day later than planned for this, but the whole thing may be a movable feast, especially given the present weather.
